Panzhihua University

Panzhihua University (Abbreviated as PZHU), is located in Panzhihua city, which is well known as the capital of Vanadium and Titanium, the biggest base of iron and steel industry in western China. The city lies in the southwestern portion of Sichuan province and borders northwestern Yunnan Province. PZHU, originally founder in 1983, is a comprehensive university of higher learning ratified by National Ministry of Education and mainly focusing on engineering courses.

PZHU covers an area of 840,000 square meters. Presently there are 799 professional teachers with 272 associate professors and professors, 476 masters and doctors, and many experts and academic leaders who have made great contribution to the municipal and provincial development. There are 15 schools and departments, including Materials Engineering School, Electromechanical Engineering School, Civil Engineering School, Humanities and Social Sciences School, Economics and Management School, Medical Science School, and many more, which provide undergraduate courses in 35 specialty areas. Within these areas are a wide range of programs covering seven branches of learning, including science, engineering, liberal arts, law, economics, management, and medical science. PZHU now has a total enrollment of over 16,200 students from all over the country (30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government). It covers a total building area of 500,000 square meters and the area of stadiums and gymnasiums is more than 50,000 square meters. The total value of teaching equipment is more than 100,000,000 RMB, and we have more than 1,740,000 books in our library. There are more than 2000 computers for teaching and 9000 seats in the multi-media classrooms and the language classrooms. In addition, we have a system of practical instruction with 17 practical teaching centers and nearly 200 partnerships with corporations and factories across China for students to gain practical experience.

PZHU takes the guidance of doing scientific research to promote education and strengthen. It is home to 13 provincial and municipal key laboratories and research centers. In recent years, the teachers have published 3000 academic dissertations, nearly 100 monographs and textbooks, undertaken more than 500 research programs and acquired 27 state invention patents, among which our research on an Innovative Process for Comprehensive Utilization of Vanadium Bearing Titano-magnetite Concentrate is changing the way people view the uses of vanadium around the world. In addition, the studies on Electrolysis Reduction of TiO2 to Titanium, Experimental Research on Construction Mechanical Properties of Reinforced Concrete with Blast Furnace Slag Bearing High Titania and Process Technology of Adding Bamboo as Reinforcement to High Embankment Soil Slope has reached a leading level domestically.

The graduates from PZHU have been widely recognized by the society for their strong knowledge, creativity and ability. More than 90% of Panzhihua University graduates find jobs, which makes the school become a talent pool for local economic construction.
